"I've recently started making quick monochrome studies outside, then taking them back to my studio, chopping them up and reassembling them into abstract images. I can use these to refer back to as the painting moves on. I like to set a mood with some music and start making initial marks and go from there. I'd don't wait for inspiration to come to me - its not a luxury I can afford - in fact some of my most successful paintings are the ones made when painting is the last thing I wanted to be doing. The discipline is to just get on with it!"
